LSVT LOUD

Voice Therapy LSVT LOUD

The Lee Silverman Voice Treatment is a type of speech therapy developed specifically for people with Parkinson’s. The programme helps people to recognise that their voice is too quiet and trains them to speak more loudly.

Here, Geoff, who is 73 and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2016, and his wife Pat, share their experience of the therapy and their delight with the results. (External link to www.parkinsons.org.uk).

What is it?

LSVT LOUD is a highly effective, evidence-based speech therapy that improves communication and quality of life for Parkinson’s, Pediatrics, and other populations.

This dosage is consistent with principles of neuroplasticity and proven by years of research.

How does it work?

LSVT LOUD is a standardised treatment protocol that is customised to the unique communication goals of each client.

Focused on a single goal “speak LOUD!” – the treatment improves respiratory, laryngeal and articulatory function to maximise speech intelligibility. The treatment does not train people to shout or yell but uses loudness training to bring the voice to an improved, healthy vocal loudness with no strain.

Treatment always consists of:

1. 16 sessions, 4 consecutive days a week for 4 weeks

2. 60-minute one-on-one therapy sessions

3. Daily homework and carryover exercises

4. Personalised communication activities and goals

What Our Clients Say

Client Singers Clinic LSVT

Mrs H, Stourbridge

I enjoyed the sessions immensely and found Carrie to be thoroughly engaging and professional. She encouraged me to learn to think LOUD. As a result, my speech has improved, and she has given me a tool, which when I remember to use it, definitely makes a difference in my communication at work. I have grown in confidence and colleagues have noticed a difference. On one occasion a friend mentioned she thought I sounded like I did before I had Parkinson’s. My family also appreciates the fact that now I can be understood more easily. I am very grateful for this intervention and the difference it has made in my life and I would strongly urge other Parkinson’s sufferers to consider LSVT LOUD.
